Walking, Cooking, and Sewing

It's been beautiful here in SF. Warm and sunny! Is it the Thanksgiving month already? And this is my first post in November. I wanted to share some sewing projects. I've been doing a little easy sewing including napkins and a mini furoshiki (a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth) for my lunch. These simple things are very satisfying when I don't feel like doing a big project, but wanted to make something. So my newest furoshiki made the cover on the website. Yay! I love that print. Other than that, life goes on as usual with more healthy cooking.
Taking an extra long walk on a gorgeous fall day exploring my "hood."  And I realized it is a nice hood.  Look what I found.
Yep, we are proud that we have a community garden in the hood...
Strongly agree...
OMG, I did something I had never done!  I cut up a whole chicken!
After seven hours...
Lovely chicken stock...
I don't know how much of each I put in the pot, but this soup is made of the following ingredients.  You figure out how much to put in to your liking.  Yep, I'm that kind of a cook.
Butternut Squash Curry Soup
butternut squash
onion
carrot
garlic
ginger
curry powder
cumin
cayenne
lime juice
chicken stock
soy milk
salt & black pepper
My version of falafel or I should call it a chickpea fritter.  I don't know.  Again, the following is what I used.
I can of chickpea
onion
carrot
kale
shiitake mushroom
parsley
1 egg
cumin
salt & black pepper
My lunch from yesterday, loaded with power foods.  I feel light and cleansed ever since I started "clean eating."

  1. I was wondering what had happened to you (and the shop). I'm so sorry you were ill and hope you're doing much, much better now. I don't know why I didn't check the blog sooner. Also, after seeing your pictures, I realize you must live close to my daughter's school! They go to the community garden all the time and the parents at the school volunteer to take care of the chickens. The bees are away for winter, but will be back making honey in the spring. I heard today that they will be getting a grant to grow mushrooms, too! How fun!

All the best for a full recovery and we hope to stop by the shop sometime soon.

    2. Hi Alana,
Thanks for your concern. I am doing much much better now. I've seen those school kids in the garden before. It's really nice to have it there.
