From the Sewing Nook...

More kids are interested in sewing, yay!  Kids classes are usually scheduled as requested, and Kelly wanted her daughter, Katy, to learn how to sew.  Yes, an eight and half year old kid can make a skirt in two hours...with my good instructions :-)  She listened and paid attention very well.  And look!  She came to the class in her red skirt and went home in this beautiful, elegant skirt.
And here are two grown-ups trying to make their first quilt.  Well, they didn't finish it in the class, so we'll see it when they bring it in.
Eiko being very precise...
Christina going with flow...
Thanks everyone!

Fabrics and Ceramics

An overcast holiday in San Francisco. Quiet outside. A perfect day for me to stay in and do what I like to do. Organizing my studio area. Playing with my fabric. Then a new project idea hit me. A tablecloth. I've been meaning to make a new one for a while. This will be perfect for the future ceramics that I intend to make. I started to place my rustic tableware on the table to see how the tablecloth would look like. I kept staring at the table and smiled. This will be good...

Breakfast and Succulents

What did you have for breakfast?  Me?  Wait, I did this recently, didn't I?  Well, I just wanted to show off my pottery again.  So this is what I ate this morning.  A piece of toast, spinach, eggs, tomatoes served on my square plate.  And yogurt with berries in my smaller bowl.  I didn't like the way the square plate looked when I was hand building it, but it turned out nicely.  I made two of the smaller bowls, but the other one wasn't so lucky. Someone's work exploded in the kiln and my bowl got broken pieces stuck inside the bowl.  I guess these things happen once in a while.  So what can I do?
This overgrown succulent needed to get out of this hanging glass terrarium ASAP.  So I tried to remove the plant, but the terrarium cracked and broke...
So the flawed small bowl became handy to hold the rescued plant.  A happy ending...

Boys Can Wear Pink

It was time to change the February cover to something pink.  So without consulting my boy, I chose this fuchsia double gauze cotton for his boxer shorts which he was asking me to make for some time.  Against my worries that he might not wear them due to probably the girliest color, he liked them.  No hesitation whatsoever.  They were super comfortable and the alligators were cool, he said.  I am just so proud of my boy who grew up without any bias against girly colors on boys, just like how his father was.  Well, that being said, I am proud of myself raising him that way.  Boys can cry and boys can wear pink.

Pottery

What did you have for breakfast this morning?  Me?  Just my regular cereal.  But, it was not in my regular mass produced porcelin bowl.  It was in my own bowl.  I mean...I made this bowl!!!  Do you know how exciting this is?  It's okay if you don't understand, but I am over the moon.   I always wanted to take pottery classes since I was in college, but the classes were always full, and I never had a chance until now.  It's been a few weeks and finally my very first creations came out of kiln yesterday.
Can't stop smiling when looking at it...
Ah, what a lovely morning :-)
I also made this vase looking thing to hold my kitchen utensils, but I was worried that it might be too tall...
And I was right.  It's too tall for this spot under the cabinet...
I love my little birdie.  She looks pretty happy...
